Source: ECORAZZI - Yesterday was James Cameron’s moment to shine with news that his “Avatar” sequels will be solar-powered. Today, the spotlight shifts to a new state-of-the-art film lot outside Philadelphia, PA called Sun Center Studios.
Constructed to attract big-budget filmmakers to PA, Sun Center is the first purpose-built campus and sound stage facility specifically designed for feature-length films and episodic television programs. The $85 million studio sits on 33 acres and includes five studios, seven soundstages, a 4-D movie theater and a high-tech museum encompassing some 370,000 square-feet.
In addition to a geothermal energy system, the studio also recently unveiled a new 216 kilowatt photovoltaic array.
“Sun Center Studios’ commitment to sustainability extends throughout the entire facility from the efficient design of the campus’s new buildings and stormwater management, our use of organic and locally grown foods whenever possible, to our participation in ‘smart-grid’ technology programs through integrated demand response and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations along with a fleet of hybrids for our production company clients,” commented Adam Rotwitt, Senior Vice President of Sun Center Studios. ‘We believe our studio will serve as a role model for other local Pennsylvania businesses as well as companies operating in the film and television industry.” Read more at ECORAZZI...

Source: Ecorazzi - "With Italy recently putting into effect Europe’s first nationwide ban on plastic bags, it’s only fitting that a similar movement is underway here in the U.S. Cities like San Francisco, Westport, Conn. and Edmonds, Wash. have already enacted bans - and D.C. even saw plastic bag use drop 85% after a five-cent fee went into effect.
So, enter this parody of Jay-Z’s insanely popular “Empire State of Mind” song. While I’ve grown tired of the endless takes this groove has inspired, I can certainly get behind one as catchy and well-done as “Plastic”.

Source: Ecorazzi - Sam Branson may have a billionaire celebrity father, but he definitely does not fit the typical “entitled son/playboy” mold. By all accounts actually, he seems kind of normal — with a drive to make a name for himself and escape the shadow of his dad.
“I know there’s an automatic interest in me because of Dad, but what counts is what I do with it,” he tells the UK Daily Mail. “When I was a kid, being photographed at events, I felt like a fraud, thinking, ‘Why are they taking pictures of me? What have I done with my life?’ Now I know what I want to do.”
Much like his father, Sam is interested in making a difference for the planet. “I want to make documentaries about global issues like climate change in a young, funky and cool way so audiences can relate to them,” he says.
After three inspiring trips to the Arctic, Sam setup a production company in 2009 called Current Sponge — designed to “inspire people by delivering powerful messages via imaginative formats and concepts.”
“Going to the Arctic gave me self-belief and made me see the world in a new way,” he says. “I came back from that trip and believed I could do anything.”
While he’s only 25, it’s great to see someone with resources and passion out there looking to make a difference for the planet. In a way, he reminds me of David de Rothschild, another committed environmentalist with deep pockets and a desire to do good. The world could certainly use more of both.

Soucre: Ecorazzi - Continuing their tradition of Earth Day animal documentaries, Disneynature has released a new trailer for “African Cats.”
You can obviously guess what this one is about, but unlike previous films that covered a large swath of the animal kingdom, this one will focus on the “true story” of two big cat families attempting to make it in “the most wild place on Earth.” It looks touching as much as it could be heartbreaking — though with the amount of families taking young kids to see, you can bet it won’t be anything as raw as National Geographic’s “Great Migrations” series.
The topic is also timely considering what nations and conservation orgs around the world (as well as one Leonardo DiCaprio) are attempting to do to save big cats from extinction. As in past years, it’s likely that Disneynature will turn the film into a fundraiser for NGOs working to conserve habitat and fund protection for these animals.
