Over six months ago I had accepted a Facebook friend request from a Holly Murphy in Colorado. Like many of the connections that are made within the conscious social media networks, a shared interest in personal development, community and coexistence was evident and communicated through status updates, wall posts and shared articles. With excitement, Holly mentioned that she was going to be moving to LA in the coming months and was interested in connecting with like minded and like hearted people. I expressed to her that as soon as she arrived, she would be welcomed by a community of people living in the moment of expansion, creativity and the power of love.
In July, I met Holly for the first time at a joint birthday party in the back room of Marrakesh restaurant in the Valley. Instantly, I recognized her depth of gratitude, humility and inner peace. In conversation, Holly casually mentioned to me that she was a practitioner of Reiki therapy, a healing modality in which I had heard much about over the years but had yet to experience.
According to her site reikiwithholly.com, "Reiki is one energy healing method which promotes the healthy flow of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual chi. The practitioner, who has gone through a sacred process called an attunement becomes a conduit for chi. It is a powerful yet very gentle energy technique, which on a physical level stimulates blood flow, which in turn reduces wear and tear on your body. It encourages a healthy flow of chi on a mental and emotional level."
When I showed up to my first Reiki therapy session with Holly, I knew what to expect relative to the general protocol, however, no amount of research could have prepared me for the unblocking, uplifting and centering experience I was about to undergo over the next ninety minutes.
After a very brief consultation before hand, I laid down on what appeared to be a standard massage table and closed my eyes. The last thing Holly told me was that it was quite common and perfectly fine to either move in and out of the sleep state or fall asleep entirely. As a practitioner of daily meditation, I responded by saying thank you for the heads-up but I think that I will remain conscious throughout the session… These were the final words that were exchanged until the end of the session.
I remained conscious in an active state of meditation for what seemed to be the first twenty minutes, and must have nodded off because at one point I woke up from the sound of my own snoring. After this phase, I remained conscious in a deeper form of meditation for the final hour.
My body and mind were in absolute peace. I could feel the energy blockages of negative thoughts and emotions, toxins, stress, fear, uncertainty etc. opening and releasing. But this was nowhere near the deepest level of healing I was aware of. I actually felt my Self the Spirt settle and ground back into my newly opened and purified physical body.
At the end of the session, Holly quietly whispered that the session was over and advised me to sit up slowly, softly and in my own time. I honestly felt like I just slept for 48 hours straight, I was a butterfly about to surface from its cocoon. When I finally did sit up, I was offered a glass of fresh water with a drop of rose. Smiling, Holly asked me how I felt, which was written all over my face and in the light around me… she already knew!
She then asked me if I was interested in hearing what she had picked up intuitively. "Of course," I responded! The information that came to me through Holly was timely and imperative to my personal growth, well-being and relationship with others. The message was spot on, a confirmation of what I intuitively heard over the past few months but chose to brush to the side. Lastly, she told me that she learned over the years that her clients "somehow know" when it is time to come back in for another session.
I thanked Holly for the fifth time and exited the door. As soon as I got into my car, I peered into my eyes which were illuminated in the rearview mirror. I could see a reflection of "I Am," open, centered in my Spirit and restored to whole.
Two weeks later, "I knew" it was time for my next session and benefitted from it immensely. I am grateful to the Universe for bringing me and our LA community an authentic, genuine and loving healer.
